Norman Fox

For more than fifteen years, I’ve photographed Vancouver — the city where I’ve lived and walked most of my life. My work is rooted in street and documentary photography.

I didn’t set out to make a statement. I went out with a camera and paid attention. I was drawn to what caught my eye: a building about to change, someone moving through early light, something left behind near the tracks.

Over time, a pattern started to show itself. I keep coming back to how the city shifts — what rises, what disappears, what holds on. Much of this work was made in East Vancouver and the Downtown Eastside. I photographed what I encountered there, as it was: layered, imperfect, alive.

These images span different years and seasons of my life. They aren’t a finished project, but part of an ongoing relationship with this place.

The city keeps changing. I’m still walking.
